We're pub of the year 2009

The Heavy Woollen branch of the Campaign for Real Ale has chosen the New Charnwood as the best place for a pint in the area.

When Pauline and Terry first opened , the main priority was to run the business as a quality restaurant which also happened to sell first rate beers in their delightful building which used to be the Oddfellow's Hall.

What they underestimated, however, was the demand in the area for a decent pint, and as they became better known, people started travelling from slightly further afield.

The perfect pint

They're now operating four hand pumps serving a variety of beers from the local district and much further afield.

In November 2009 all stops were pulled out as the inaugural New Charnwood Beer Festival was held, serving over thirty different ales from places as diverse as Somerset, Shropshire, Lincolnshire and Staffordshire.

The story so far 227 different beers!
